Voucher for Good Behavior: Free Dog Wash in Geestmerambacht
Owners who keep their dogs on a leash in the Geestmerambacht recreation area are rewarded with a voucher for a free dog wash.
Every spring and autumn, there is a transition between bathers and dog owners in the Geestmerambacht recreation area: from April, the leash requirement applies, and by October, dogs have free rein again.
But how do you get owners to follow the rules without constantly pointing fingers? The area managers have come up with something: the "Voucher for Good Behavior".
Reward Instead of Fine
This spring, Ranger Lars is handing out vouchers to Susanne and other dog owners who keep their four-legged friends properly on a leash. With this voucher, they can use the dog wash at Sponge Dog in Broek op Langedijk for free until October.
The initiative is intended to put a positive spin on the leash requirement, which is often perceived as restrictive by dog owners. "My dog acts tough when he's off-leash," says Susanne, who is happy with the recognition for following the rules.
Why a Leash Requirement?
In the summer months, Geestmerambacht is a popular area for swimmers and sunbathers. To prevent conflicts and protect nature, dogs must be on a leash during this period. Only in the Vlasgat sub-area (on the north side of the lake) are dogs allowed to run free and swim all year round.
